Since just before Christmas, I’ve been churning out Frostgrave scenery, all of it made very cheaply. Total spend so far is around £20 and there’s enough to fill a 3ft square table already.

Specially bought: Woodland Scenics snow flock – £10. I’ve used about £1’s worth so far. A selection of […]
So I have succumbed. My problem is that I have so many bits and pieces that could be used that I have to decide where to start. I have one of the GW Manor house sets that would look good, so the start is to construct bases to put these on. I have also purchased […]
A follow up to my earlier post on Frostgrave trees, I’ve added three new types of tree to my collection. They were all ordered from eBay

Just before Christmas I bought a package of second hand trees on eBay, mainly because it contained one of the Britains oak trees – as used in WFB3 on ‘that table’. It also included some rather ropey conifers that I thought would come in handy for the Frostgrave project I was starting up. Here’s what […]
This weekend, starting on Friday, Rowan and I built this Norman motte and bailey castle for his History homework. It’s built to 6mm scale (1:300) in the classic shape. Most motte and bailey castles were pretty small – this, with its 15 metre high mound and three storey keep, represents one of the larger examples.

Wargaming table supports
Everyone has their take on the wargaming table and so here’s mine. A long time ago it was firmly established in my head by WFB3 that the standard table was 4’x8′, so I couldn’t really consider anything less. It needed to store in a small space and be easy to put […]
Following on from the savannah trees, I thought I would put together some pieces to represent the aftermath of a bombardment. I have constructed some craters, some tree stumps and some trees which have had most of the foliage stripped by fire or blast.
Figured most of the fighting would probably be in the dry […]
Still waiting for the figures (come on Pendraken) but focussing on some terrain in readiness. Although these have been sized for my 10mm setup, the same technique can easily be used for larger scales. Here’s one which has simply been sprayed green.
The raw material is the dried flower heads of a garden flower […]
Been interested in the East Africa campaign in WW1 for a long time. Have a few of my Darkest Africa28mm that would do the job, but I know I’ll never get a big enough collection in 28mm to refight any of the battles, and artillery in 28mm takes a bigger table than I can […]
I have a bunch of the Foundry Darkest Africa tribesmen who are complaining about a housing shortage, and some thick card tubing which was part of the packaging in a set of saucepans prompted me to extract my digit and add to the one hut I made about 20 years ago!
First, cut a doorway […]
