NORSE WARRIORS
|
These Norse are mainly old Citadel ones
(mid 80s). This range was later sold by Wargames Foundry, the only
difference being they replaced Slottabases with moulded ones. The
berserker at the back, who is chewing the rim of his shield to work
himself into a frenzy, was an extra that Wargames Foundry have added
to the range.
Unfortunately these are no longer available,
but Foundry has this
new range of Vikings.

These were collected over a long period
of time, with the first members being painted 5 or 6 years before
the last.
I have used an earthier palette than usual
to give that primitive feel but the colours are still brighter and
more varied than they really would have been. Being truely realistic
would have been a bit drab.

Norse favoured strong geometric designs, often
with radial symmetry around the central boss. Some of these are Citadel
plastic shields, and others are metal ones from Wargames Foundry.

On the left is Black Tree Design (formerly Harlequin) Miniatures' Champion
of Rohan figure. Although he isn't Norse, I have included him because
he is in the same Dark Ages style, although more Anglo Saxon than
Norse perhaps. The motive on the shield is a variation of the badge
of Rohan; a white horse on a green field.
Now sold as part of 'Men of West Plains' command group.
